Fundamental Charts: Overview
YCharts allows investors to easily view financial data in ways that were historically available only to people in financial firms. To reach our charts, click on the "Fundamental Chart" link after hovering over the "tools" tab at the top of any YCharts page. To learn the basics of charting, see our video below.
How to Build a Chart
- Add in your securities using the security search box or add a saved watchlist, screener results, portfolio holdings, etc. using our Lists button under List Browser.
- Add in financial metrics using the metric search box, or view all available metrics by selecting Browse.
- Adjust the Data Format, we will have four options:
- Original: This option will plot data on the chart as raw, actual values.
- Normalized: This option will display each item on the chart as a percent change from the first period on the chart. Use this to view performance over any time period. It's also a useful way to compare multiple items that have significantly different values.
- Growth: This option will display each item on the chart as the growth of $10k by default, or any custom entered amount up to $1B, from the first period of the graph. This feature is useful to visualize appreciate or depreciation in a specific time span.
- Percent Off High: This option will display each item on the chart as a negative percentage indicating values compared to the highest point they reached prior to that point during the selected time period. For example, if charting a value that has a series 4, 5, 8, 4, 6, 8 the values would appear as 0, 0, 0, -50%, -25%, 0. This feature is helpful to see how much a value has retraced from a upward trend.
- Once your portfolio is finished, you can save, export, or share with colleagues.
