Monitoring Macroeconomic Events with Email Reports

Problem

When you’re tracking the economy, it can be a big chore to stay current on major indicators. The risk a release carries may affect the overall market. This workflow will allow users to create a weekly reminder of events you should keep an eye on.

Solution

  1. Let’s create a watchlist with the five indicators below and name it "Key economic indicators." If you’re unsure of how to create one, please watch here for further instructions.
    • Philly Fed Manufacturing Activity Index (I:PFMAI)
    • US Core Consumer Price Index (I:USCCPISM)
    • US Change in Nonfarm Payrolls (I:USCNP)
    • University of Michigan US Consumer Sentiment (I:USCS)
    • US Housing Starts (I:USHS)
  2. Once the watchlist is created, click on “Email Reports” in the Tools menu bar.
  3. Click on the “Create New” in the top right hand corner.
  4. In the report builder:
    1. Name the report "Major Economic Indicators"
    2. Insert "Important economic indicators that affect my portfolio" as the description
    3. Choose the weekly frequency
  5. Click on “Economic Calendar" to add some content. In the module screen, select "Economic Calendar" and then select our watchlist "Key economic indicators."
  6. After adding the module, click on "Save" in the top right hand corner and "Preview" to show how the report will look.
  7. Lastly, double check that you are subscribed to this report and you will begin receiving the "Key economic indicators" report every week.

Notes

  • In addition to "Economic calendar," the "Economic Review" displays historical changes and trends.
