Frequently Asked Questions
How are relative calculations computed?
Each relative calculation is a ratio of the security’s metric in comparison to what it’s being related to. For example, if security ABC had a PE Ratio of 10, and the market as a whole had a PE ratio of 20, the computation would be as follows:
(PE Ratio of ABC) / (PE Ratio of Market) = Relative Calculation 10 / 20 = 0.50
Where on YCharts can relative calculations be found?
Relative Calculations can be used in the Equity Screener, Comp Tables, and the data tables on your watchlists.
What is the security being compared to when it is a relative calculation to the market?
The relative calculations use the S&P 500 for U.S. securities and the S&P/TSX Composite for Canadian securities.
