Scatter Plot: Overview
The Scatter plot tool allows you to plot data points on an X-Axis and Y-Axis grid to compare and contract securities and data. Scatter plots allow for advisors/investors to do a different type of graphical analysis with securities data. On YCharts, you can run your scatter plot analysis in two forms: a Point-in-Time Scatter Plot and a Timeseries Scatter Plot.
How to Build a Scatter Plot:
1. Head to the Scatter Plot tool.

2. Add your securities using either the securities search box or add a saved watchlist, portfolio holdings, screener results, etc. using the Lists button.

3. Choose the Scatter Plot Type. The scatter plot will default to the X axis set to Annualized Standard Deviation of Monthly Returns and the Y axis set to Annualized Total Returns on a month end frequency. You can then choose from Point in Time or a Timeseries type.

Point in Time: Allows you to plot a single X and Y data point for each security added to your chart. You can select any metric for your X-Axis metric and Y-Axis metric as well as a historical date for each metric. If each security you have selected has a data point available for your X-Axis and Y-Axis inputs, a point will be plotted on the chart.
Timeseries: Allows you to plot a series of X and Y data points for each security added to your chart. You can select any metric that has historical values to add to your scatter plot. Once you select a time range for your data, the time series data will be plotted onto your chart for all dates that contain a metric value for both X-Axis and Y-Axis metrics.
4. Optional: Customize the metrics for the X and Y axis. For Point in Time, you will want to select Custom and then you will be able to adjust the metrics.

5. Make sure to save your chart by selecting 'New Scatter Plot' --> Save As.
