Separately Managed Accounts (SMA) Data
Separately Managed Accounts (SMAs) are pooled investments with a high level of customization that allow you to invest directly into the underlying securities within the SMA. Similar to Mutual Fund data, we have Fundamental metrics and Fund characteristics provided to us by Morningstar. Unlike Mutual Fund data, SMA data is updated less frequently than daily and more in line with monthly and quarterly depending on the SMA manager.
Frequently asked Questions
How do I measure the size of an SMA if assets under management or net asset value are blank?
SMAs are tracked and invested into differently than a traditional pooled fund. This investment vehicle is not necessarily tracked by NAV, and it is not “managed” by one asset manager. For these reasons, metrics like NAV and AUM are only available for CEFs, ETFs, and Mutual Funds. You can use the metric Total Market Value to compare the size of an SMA.
Do SMAs have fund flows?
No - SMAs do not track fund flows as they are not subject to flows of other investors’ money going in and out.
What does Total Market Value (Long) and (Short) mean?
Similar to an Asset Allocation breakdown, Total Market Value (Short) will encompass any positions that the fund holds short, whereas Total Market Value (Long) will track positions that the fund holds long.
